My name is Andrew Siemer.

As soon as I got out of high school I went straight into the Military and quickly found myself living the life of an Army Ranger.  For the four years that I was in the Army I was in the best shape of my life.  We ran 3 to 5 miles every day (and sometimes more).  Not every day but often enough to mention, we would road march for 3 to 30 miles with full gear.  The remainder of the days activities were generally physical as well.  We had an unlimited food supply in the form of Uncle Sam's cafeteria and all the exercise we needed to burn the calories away as quickly as we could consume them.  Outside of day to day life our training schedule was even more intense.  We were in the woods at the base of Mount Rainier or in the swamps in Louisiana, Florida, or any other southern state with muck, and in the jungles of Panama for more than 6 to 9 months out of the year.  (I loved it!)

When I got out of the Army I went straight to work.  Initially I was doing odd labor oriented jobs but quickly realized that I needed to find something with a better future.  I started to go to school for computer aided design (architectural, structural, and other forms of engineering related drawing) where I met my first computer.  As soon as I started down this path my career direction started to be formed and my job selection started to change.  Not long after I received an associates degree in CAD I dropped out of school and started to attack my career in a more aggressive manner.

With this attack came many long hours building computers, configuring networks, and other forms of educating myself in the world of hardware.  Eventually I started to move away from hardware towards software.  It was then that I found web programming.  I have never looked back.  I have been neck deep in everything web oriented for many years now and have never made time for anything other than career and family oriented concepts.

On the family side of life I have 6 kids and 2 wives.  Don’t let anyone fool you – this is a major time consuming aspect of life!  Having said that it is also the most enjoyable part of life.  Nothing gives you more reason to succeed and drive on in life than your family.

Notice in the above story that the only time I have spent working out was during my military years!  In the military I learned how to eat, run, eat, road march, eat, work hard.  When I got out of the military I never learned how to stop eating and my time for anything other than hard work had evaporated.  My body is the evidence to this more than anything else.

It’s time for a change.  For many years I have always made those new year resolutions “This year is gonna be different.  This year I am going to lose weight, gain muscle, and transform my life!”  Well – now is the time for that change.

My reason for putting up GymEd.com is to help me track my experience over the next year and hopefully for many days after.  I am hoping that through dedicated logging and analyzing of my diet and exercise routines I can make this transformation happen.  With my year long use of this application I am also hoping to fine tune this so that it is very easy for others in my pudgy predicament to achieve their goals.  For those that are not pudgy, I hope this site helps you to continue your shapely happiness.

At the time of this writing I am 6’ 4”, 330 pounds.  I don’t really care about losing weight so much as losing fat.  If my fat loss initially goes with weight loss – cool.  My real goal is getting in shape.  By shape I mean I want to pack on some serious muscle, shred my body as much as possible, and transform myself back into the efficient man machine that I used to be.
