How does the body break down sugar?

How is (refined) sugar digested? “The pancreas has to work extra hard to manufacture insulin (the blood sugar-balancing hormone), and whatever energy the body can't use gets stored as fat, resulting in unhealthy weight gain and even insulin resistance, a precursor to diabetes.” (1) “All carbohydrates are broken down into simple sugars. These sugars are absorbed into the bloodstream. As the sugar level rises, the pancreas releases a hormone called insulin, which is needed to move sugar from the blood into the cells, where the sugar can be used as a source of...

My home gym

I realised that I never got around to showing what makes up my home gym.  This won’t be an overly descriptive post…here goes: I guess the core of my home gym is the Marcy Diamond Elite Smith Machine. This allows me to do the majority of my core exercises.  I have to say that I am 100% satisfied with this machine.  It is well made and well thought out. My next piece is the Apex Roman Chair for hyper extensions. I also have the Marcy Crunch Board. ...

Can I stack Gakic, Vitakic, Creakic, Leukic, Cryotest, Nitrotech, naNOx9, Meso-tech, etc?

In my last post I mentioned that I was thinking about adding to my current stack.  While doing various research on this topic I found several complaints about using specific supplements but not a whole lot on what would happen when mixing the supplements with one another.  Well…after much thought (and a random 20% coupon with GNC) I purchased all of my additional supplements.  I am now taking Gakic, Vitakic, Creakic, Leukic, Cryotest, Nitrotech, naNO x9, Meso-tech bars, fish oil, and bee pollen.  My biggest concern was how the naNO x9 would work with the Gakic.  I have...

Increasing my MuscleTech stack – adding Vitakic, Cryotest, naNO x9, and Meso-tech meal replacement

I have been using Gakic, Creakic, Leukic, and Hydroxycut (now recalled!).  I have to say that the Gakic does quite well at doing what it is supposed to.  I never feel an acid build up in my muscles while working out.  It rocks.  The Creakic, while I am sure it does what it is supposed too, it also makes me sick and almost always forces me to throw something up a bit!  Argh…I have trust in MuscleTech though so i am sticking with this one till I find something better.  The Leukic is a hard one to track.  It says...

Tire workout – alternating drag

I have been enjoying my new tractor tire immensely (my wife thinks I am crazy…quite a funny ha-ha between her and her mom!).  I now find myself looking forward to completing my time on the exercise bike so that I can take my tire outside to play with it.  This morning I did my normal routine on the tire but then randomly fell into another excercise.  In this movement I bent over and grabbed the tire with one hand to drag it towards me.  Then I hopped backwards a couple of steps and alternated my grip on the tire to...

250lb tire added to my gym tools

I have been involved with the JiuJitsu/Grappling world since it first got real publicity in the main stream.  For me this was back in 1994 when I first got into the Army.  Once I got to my home at Fort Lewis WA with the 2nd Ranger Battalion I found that they were transitioning from standard military “combatives” (just enough information to get your butt kicked in a bar fight) to Royce Gracie style Brazilian Jiu Jitsu.  I actually got to meet him and one of his brothers when they came up to the firing line to shoot our 240G machine...

No sleep due to Gakic Hardcore?

I don’t know what the deal was last night.  I intentionally went to bed extra early (9:30) so that I could wake up by 7 to get a better and longer work out.  I didn’t end up falling asleep until around 3 after getting out of bed several times.  It sucked.  I didn’t lay in bed yawning…I laid in bed with eyes wide open!  I am pretty sure that this is due to the Gakic that I have been taking lately.  While the product works as advertised (I don’t ever hit the wall and can lift way beyond my normal...

Getting back into working out!

Argh!  Looking at this blog is horrible for me.  I show that I was very into things in January and then I fell off quickly.  Not a good thing.  Though that is how new years resolutions work I guess.  The key here is that rather than going to the gym for a while and then piddling out to never return.  I actually bought and paid for all my gym equipment, emptied my living room, and filled it full of reminders as to how fat and lazy I am.  There is my gym mocking me every time I leave the house. ...
